Review: Mountain Dew Summer Freeze

Mountain Dew Summer Freeze 20-oz bottle.

Mountain Dew's limited-edition flavor for summer 2023 is Mtn Dew Summer Freeze, which features the citrus-profile of Mtn Dew combined with cherry, lemon, and raspberry popsicle flavors.

A 20-oz bottle costs approximately $2.29, but I received this courtesy of Mountain Dew.

Mtn Dew Summer Freeze sports the electric blue color that is so often associated with "blue raspberry" flavored drinks or candy. The soda's aroma is very reminiscent of the Bomb Pops that Summer Freeze is modeled after, which is to say it smells sweet and like fruit candy.

In terms of taste, Summer Freeze has a prominent citrus note mixed with the generic, candied berry blue raspberry flavoring. There is a light cherry flavor mostly on the end note and as an aftertaste. Like popsicles, the soda was quite sweet.

True to its inspiration, Mtn Dew Summer Freeze tastes like the patriotically-colored popsicles that were a mainstay during many childhood summers. While the soda is fairly successful, in so far as imitating Bomb Pops go, drinking Summer Freeze kind of made me want to just eat a popsicle instead.
