I went and bought one for $7.29 (versus $5.49 without bacon and cheese)
The choice to go with Havarti is an interesting on as it's a soft, textured cheese that seems like it would go moldy in storage a bit faster than a hard cheese such cheddar or Swiss. Regardless, here it offered a creamy flavor with a mild Swiss-like finish when eaten alone. However, eaten altogether with the rest of the sandwich saw it supplying a soft, creamy texture and a vague, creamy flavor. Additional creaminess came from the mayo which also contributed a rich savory quality.
The bacon was soft and chewy with the occasional crispy bits. There was a nice bacon-y flavor with the requisite rich saltiness and smokiness but the flavor struggled to come through against the chicken.
The thick pickle slices added a resilient watery crunch and provided a measured acidity to the sandwich.
The chicken filet was fairly thick with a lot of flaky, crispy breading. The chicken itself was juicy and tender although it was just slightly warm in temperature. For the most part bun coverage was good but there was an end of the filet that was just all batter/breading.
The bun offered a soft, moist texture with a slight chew and slight richness that cradled the contents of the sandwich well.
When it comes down to it, Popeyes Classic Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich turned out well from an executional standpoint and the base sandwich remained very enjoyable. That being said, the addition of bacon and cheese didn't amount to much due to a proportional difference between the fried chicken portion and the bacon-and-cheese portion. Simply put, the chicken filet is too much for a standard portion of bacon and cheese.
