Review: Pizza Hut - Nashville Hot Chicken Crafted Flatzz

The custom box for Pizza Hut's Nashville Hot Chicken Crafted Flatzz.

Pizza Hut's Nashville Hot Chicken Crafted Flatzz is a "hand-crafted" personal pizza topped with crispy-fried boneless chicken pieces, spicy Nashville Hot seasoning, fresh onions, mozzarella, and pickle ranch sauce.

The pizza costs $5 before 5PM and $6.99 after at my local Pizza Hut.

Judging by the size and shape, I would guess the Crafted Fratzz is made by taking half the dough from a small hand-tossed pizza and stretching it out into a thin, oval shape that's about twice the size of the chain's personal pan pizza. It's cut into eight small pieces, and each piece can be eaten in one large bite or two to three normal bites.

The crust was thin and airy with a really nice crispiness at the surface and just a bit of chew to the soft crumb. It did not have the cracker-like feel of the chain's Thin 'N Crispy crust. There was a decent amount of cheese on top, and it had managed a bit of a cheese pull.

The boneless chicken bites were covered in a fairly thin, crispy coating. They were similar in size to a large marble, and there was exactly one piece of chicken on each slice.

The Nashville Hot seasoning was tasty with a strong heat and just a touch of sweetness. The heat came on fast but didn't linger for very long. It was sprinkled all over the pizza. The pickle ranch (does not contain pickles but is flavored with pickle spices, flavors, and herbs) balanced it out nicely with a creamy tang and a hint of herbs. The onions were sweet with a watery crunch.

Overall, Pizza Hut's Nashville Hot Chicken Crafted Flatzz was really nice, with a good mix of heat, sweetness, creamy richness, and acidity to go with a crispy crust. The price is affordable as well. I'm not a fan of the name, though, which I guess is a portmanteau of "flat" and "pizza."
