Review: Bojangles' - Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich

Bojangles' Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich features North Carolina-style barbecued pork and coleslaw on a toasted, buttered bun.

I picked one up for $3.79.

I’m a fan of barbecue and of Bojangles' so I was pretty excited when this sandwich was announced. However, once I finally unwrapped the Bojangles’ BBQ sandwich, I had a feeling that it wouldn’t be anything special.

While the pork came loaded onto the bun, it seemed obvious that it wasn’t high-quality pulled pork. Thankfully, it wasn’t very wet and mushy, but the texture was still disappointing. Hand-pulled pork is less shredded and more chunky, which is what I was hoping for.

The flavor of the pork was just decent as well. It had a strong vinegary tang, which the cool, creamy coleslaw balanced out well. I also enjoyed the crispness of the cabbage in the slaw. There was plenty there and it helped with the overall texture of the sandwich. I'd also recommend adding hot sauce to it (which they have on hand), although I didn't use any for this review. The meat would certainly benefit from the shot of flavor.

Overall, I was underwhelmed by Bojangles' Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich. It's comforting in that it doesn't stray from the standard formula, but it doesn't do anything especially well. The next time I find myself in a Bojangles’ I’m gonna stick with chicken and biscuits.
