Review: McDonald's - Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy

Side view of McDonald's Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy.

McDonald's Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy features a southern-style fried chicken filet served with applewood-smoked bacon, shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes, and Cajun Ranch Sauce, on a toasted potato bun.

I ended up making two attempts to get the Bacon Cajun Ranch McCrispy and technically, I failed both times because my local McDonald's is either having regular problems filling out orders accurately or I  just had bad luck. I ordered a "Bacon Cajun Ranch McCrispy" on both occasions. The first time, I received a Spicy McCrispy from the drive-thru (where it was hard to check) and, the second time, I received a Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy from the counter. I didn't want to go back and have them toss the sandwich so you guys are getting a review of the Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy.

I paid $6.19 for the sandwich (but a Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy is normally $6.79 so I suppose I got some of my money back from getting a Spicy McCrispy instead of the more expensive Bacon Cajun Ranch version).

McDonald's Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy opened up.

The Cajun Ranch Sauce was spread generously on both the top and bottom halves of the bun, which was a bit much if you're trying to taste the other ingredients. It largely relegated the lettuce and tomato to texture-only ingredients (although lettuce is generally a texture-only ingredient). The sauce looked more than a little like Big Mac Sauce--only dotted with red speckles.

In flavor, the Cajun Ranch Sauce was creamy with a fairly sharp tang from a combination of buttermilk and sour cream. There was a bit of ranch herbiness to it as well as a slow-building, moderately spicy heat.

Half of the shredded lettuce fell out of my sandwich--roughly a fourth fell out as I lifted the sandwich out of its box and another quarter escaped while I was eating.

The bun was soft and squishy but I noticed it cracked a bit when I grasped the sandwich to eat. It wasn't dry but there's not as much springiness versus similar fast-food buns.

The bacon offered intermittent moments of crunch and smokiness but, like the tomatoes, was somewhat covered up by the Cajun Ranch Sauce

The chicken seemed freshly fried with a thin, crispy crust and a meaty, juicy filet inside.

Seeing as McDonald's Bacon Cajun Ranch Deluxe McCrispy is a Deluxe McCrispy with bacon and a new sauce, it could be more exciting. The sandwich was enjoyable and well-made but the bacon felt a little wasted and the amount of Cajun Ranch was excessive. Additionally, when I think of Cajun food, I think of blackened chicken, jambalaya, and gumbo. The sauce didn't bring to mind the seasoning of any of those.
