International Weekend: Forelli - Sugar Topped Puff Pastry

Welcome to International Weekend, a new feature on Brand Eating highlighting vittles imported into the U.S. from other countries. First up are Forelli Sugar Topped Puff Pastry cookies which come from Italy.

I was able to score a 7-ounce package for $1.59.

These finger-length cookies are made from baked puff pastry which makes for many crispy, flaky layers and a light airy-ness. It's a bit like eating a croissant with a less butter if every layer was crispy.
Interestingly, there's not that much sugar in the cookies beyond the melted sugar on top. It might not be sweet enough for some but I thought it was quite nice with just enough sweetness to satisfy.
Overall, a great, crispy, flaky, and just slightly-sweet experience.

I see these things in the Dollar store all the time and have always wondered about them (Forelli products, that is.) I thought they came from this countyr though...

  2. Well, they have a U.S. distributor but they're made in Italy. You should try it if it's only a buck!

  3. They are delicious, for the price, I truly love them, wish more stores stocked them. I have found them in the Dollar General & IGA here in S.E. Alabama
