Review: Jersey Mike's Roast Beef and Provolone Sub

Jersey Mike's Famous Roast Beef and Provolone cold sub promises "Certified Angus USDA Choice" roast beef cooked on the premises paired with provolone and then built the way you like it. I picked up mine "Mike's Way" which comes with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil and spices.

A sizable "regular" comes in at $7.75.

Real roast beef cooked on the premises is what drew me to this one. Yon actually see them grab a big hunk of roast beef and slice it in front of you. They don't skimp on the meat either! The roast beef was really good and sliced thin but not too thin allowing you to still enjoy the meats texture. It's also not overly salted like standard cured deli meats so you get a good beefy flavor.
Provolone seems to be the only cheese option at Mike's but it is freshly-sliced like their meats.

Like Subway, the bread is baked in-house but your options are limited to white or wheat. The quality of the bread is better and it has a very nice, very thin layer of crustiness to it.
The veggies were fresh. Although the selection is more limited than Subway, it's a pretty standard set for a sandwich shop. I really like the standard "Mike's Way" build; it's pretty traditional but I like traditional and it's very good and so it Jersey Mike's Roast Beef and Provolone sub.

  1. I signed up for their mailing list so I get coupons once every couple of months, which makes the prices more reasonable - because without coupons it is easily 25-30 bucks for two people. (They  also gave me a free sub and drink on my birthday, no strings attached.)

  2. subs are just too darn expensive.  not that i can't afford them, but after buying a sub, swinging by mcdonalds and getting a few large fries and a couple mcflurries, and then hitting up the grocery store for a couple of jars of gravy, things start adding up

  3. When I worked in a chain movie retail/rental business before the hard times (not hard to figure that one out), weekend nights were slammed for literally hours non-stop. But when you see regulars over time, you definitely interact with them and get to know their likes and dislikes. I visit Qdoba weekly during the lunch rush and the staff knows my order since it never changes. They always chat with our group no matter the lines. It's makes part of the day fun when you can interact with regulars instead of just seeming monotonous, so I don't think that's far removed from reality based on my experiences.

Oh, and don't know if the store in the review maybe is different, but my local Jersey Mike's offers provolone, swiss and American cheese every day. I get the swiss at Jersey Mike's and provolone at any other sandwich shop.
