Review: Wendy's - Classic Breakfast Sandwich

Wendy's Classic Breakfast Sandwich is offered at one of my local Wendy's restaurants as part of a breakfast test and features bacon, cheese, scrambled eggs, sausage, and some sort of tomato mayo sauce on a kaiser bun.

I picked one up for $2.79.

Similar to the Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich (which has two fried eggs and ham instead of sausage) at Jack in the Box, the Classic Breakfast Sandwich features your typical fast food breakfast ingredients... except on a bun instead of a biscuit or an English muffin. I prefer a biscuit or an English muffin myself but I guess some people want a bun.

In recent years, Wendy's changed their trademark Kaiser bun in recent years; it's no longer corner dust or yellow. The new bun is more closely resembles the typical fast food bun meaning it's softer, airy, and kinda plain.
They also changed their bacon not too long ago. And the change was definitely for the better.

The new bacon is thicker and crisper than the old and is definitely a step up over competitors. The egg was reasonably fluffy and the sausage was salty and lightly seasoned. If you think about it, with the eggs, cheese, bacon and sausage, this is more protein than you get in the standard Wendy's burger.

The sauce was spread in a very thin layer and adds a very light, slightly tangy flavor.

Overall, the quality of the ingredients was pretty decent and everything was cooked well but I still don't like the bun.

  1. Problem here is it looks similar to sandwiches their competitors are charging for $1.

  2. I just had Wendy's new Asiago Breakfast Sandwich and new potatoes. The sandwich is better than I have had at any fast food restaurant and the potatoes were great. A huge improvement over any breakfast  sandwich before. I rallyu like the new sausage , fresh egg and holindaise sauce.
