Frozen Friday: Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Caramelized Oat Ice Cream

Haagen-Dazs' Chocolate Caramelized Oat ice cream features chocolaty, caramelized oat clusters mixed into caramel ice cream.

I picked up a 14-oz carton for $2.99 on sale.

The ice cream is part of the Artisan "collection" Haagen-Dazs introduced earlier this year, where they create flavors inspired by desserts from small artisan eateries. This particular flavor was made in partnership with Clairesquares in San Francisco.

The caramel of the ice cream was pretty mild but with a rich, sweet creaminess. The subtle flavor showcased the oat clusters nicely. As is usual for super-premium ice cream, it's dense and smooth in texture.

The oat clusters offer up an enjoyable combination of chocolate and toasty, flaky oat tinged with a slight caramelized quality. They remind me a bit of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. There seemed to be a good ratio between the clusters and ice cream.

Overall, I really liked Haagen-Dazs' Chocolate Caramelized Oat ice cream. I liked the mellow caramel and chocolate pairing as well as the contrast between the smooth ice cream and crispy oats.
