Hostess Pumpkin Spice Twinkies feature the signature golden sponge cakes piped with a pumpkin spice-flavored creme.
I bought a box for
$2.99 on sale. They're exclusive to Kroger (and Kroger brand) supermarkets.
Sadly, there wasn't much pumpkin spice flavor to be found. Well, actually there's not much pumpkin flavor to be found but the spice is there. I got hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and maybe a bit of ginger.
The sponge cake was oddly chewy in this batch; like the dough had been overworked or something. There was a weird resiliency to it. Other than that, there's the same sticky coating and airy golden crumb.
Overall, Hostess Pumpkin Spice Twinkies were a miss for me. The pumpkin flavor just wasn't there. Still, if you're interested in a spiced Twinkie, you might want to give it a go.
