McDonald's Tests New Americano and Macchiato in Northern California

McDonald's is testing three new McCafe espresso-based drinks in the Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto area of Northern California.

The new selection includes a Caramel Macchiato (available hot or iced), French Vanilla Cappuccino, and Americano.

The Caramel Macchiato consists of espresso and caramel-flavored syrup layered with steamed milk and topped with a caramel drizzle.

The French Vanilla Cappuccino features espresso, steamed milk, and vanilla-flavored syrup, finished with a layer of creamy foam.

The Americano takes some espresso and adds hot water and is essentially the espresso version of your standard drip-brewed coffee.

The new drinks also happen to round out McDonald's espresso-based drink menu to better match up to what's available at Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts.

The restaurants serving the drinks have upgraded to new espresso machines that are better at steaming milk and are meant to improve all McCafe beverages, including mochas, lattes, and hot chocolate.

If you happen to be in the area, during the week of March 20-26, restaurants participating in the test will be offering a small cup of any of the new drinks for $1 each, which should encourage trialing.

Participating Northern California McDonald's restaurants participating in the new espresso-based beverages test can be found in the following counties:

- Sacramento
- Placer
- Nevada
- Sutter
- Yuba
- Yolo
- El Dorado (not including S. Lake Tahoe restaurants)
- Solano (not including restaurants west of Fairfield)
- San Joaquin
- Stanislaus
- Amador
- Calaveras
- Tuolumne
- Colusa
