Frozen Friday: Jimmy Dean - Meat Lovers Stuffed Hash Browns

Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Stuffed Hash Browns feature hash brown potato patties filled with a combination of sausage, ham, bacon, cheddar, and mozzarella.

A 15-oz four-count box was $4.99.

Thanks to a crisping sleeve, the hash brown came out of the microwave with a remarkably crispy shell. Even the bottom was crispy; though it was noticeably flatter and warped on that side. The potato bits underneath the surface felt a bit mushy and more mashed potato-like than the individual strands more associated with hash browns. It's wasn't a bad thing (fried mashed potatoes!) but it's worth noting.

Inside was a rather thick layer of meat and cheese as promised. While plentiful, the cheese didn't really stretch or pull. The cheddar provided a bulk of the cheesy flavor.

The sausage, ham, and bacon provided bits of meaty texture and a combination of salt and smokiness that wasn't all that distinguishable. They all more or less tasted the same.

With the ratio of meat, cheese, and potato skewing in favor of meat and cheese, the Stuffed Hash Brown ended up feeling overly salty. While I liked the crunch and potato of the hash brown portion, the filling had me reaching for water to wash out the saltiness. I wonder if they'll offer plain hash browns with the crisping sleeve...
