Review: Mama Cozzi's - Pepperoni Calzone

Mama Cozzi's Pepperoni Calzone features a filling of pepperoni, provolone, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, and Romano cheese. It's only available at Aldi (Mama Cozzi is an Aldi private brand).

I bought a 7-oz calzone for $2.99.

The crust on the calzone was dense and soft with a fair amount of chew to it. It felt the same as the bread for the brand's Cuban-Style Panini.

Unlike the pork of the Cuban-Style Panini, however, the pepperoni here actually delivered a good amount of flavor. The pepperoni was light on any heat but still managed a strong, greasy, seasoned pork profile.

The cheese was thoroughly melted, stretchy, and oozing. I didn't really taste the salty bite of parmesan or Romano but there was a mild creaminess to it that complemented the pepperoni well. The ricotta also got lost in the shuffle as it just melted quietly into the rest of the cheeses.

Mama Cozzi's Pepperoni Calzone was good for a plentiful amount of melty cheese and oily pepperoni. As a fan of pepperoni and pepperoni pizza, that works great for me.
