Domino's Makes E-Bikes Available as an Optional Delivery Vehicle

Domino's is making custom e-bikes available as a delivery vehicle option to its locations nationwide.

The bikes are made by Rad Power Bikes, the biggest e-bike brand in North American, and come with motors that can assist with pedaling and run for 25 to 40 miles before needing a recharge. The bikes feature front and rear insulated cargo areas to carry food and drinks and can hold up to 12 large pizzas.

Domino's tested the bikes in a number of corporate-owned stores in Houston, Miami, and New York earlier this year and cited better "overall delivery and service" and the ability to hire from a wider pool of candidate as they were able to consider those who might not have an automobile or driver's license.

They probably aren't going to find many takers in more spread-out areas but the stores located in more dense, urban areas (i.e. large cities) might adopt the option as a solution to traffic congestion and/or a shortage of parking.

Domino's plans to deploy hundreds of the e-bikes at corporate-owned stores in Miami, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, and Houston later this year.
