Review: Wendy's - Bacon Jalapeno Cheeseburger

Wendy's Bacon Jalapeno Cheeseburger features a quarter-pound beef patty, pickled jalapenos, applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, crispy-fried onions, cheese sauce, and smoky jalapeno sauce on a toasted premium bun.

I bought one for $6.09.

Even though I was eating in, my burger patty came out lukewarm and was not as flavorful as a result.

Between the two slices of cheese and cheese sauce, it was plenty cheesy. The cheese sauce, the same as you'd find on their topped fries, just adds creaminess without much in the way of cheddar bitterness.

The bun was very soft all around (a bit too soft for my liking but it held together well enough) and fairly spongy with just a touch of sweetness.

The bacon and onions were good for a light crispiness, with the bacon providing a meaty smokiness and the onion offering a slightly sweet flavor.

Between the pickled jalapenos and the smoky jalapeno sauce (which was just vinegary and spicy without smokiness or pepper flavor), there was a good amount of heat but too much in the way of tangy notes. I found myself wishing that they went with fresh jalapenos instead (which they've done before).

Overall, Wendy's Bacon Jalapeno Cheeseburger was mostly a good rendition of a bacon cheeseburger (minus the lukewarm temperature on this visit) but the added jalapenos and jalapeno sauce, while delivering spicy heat, made it feel like you had put too many pickles on your burger.
