Review: Wendy's Crispy Chicken Sandwich

Wendy was a late comer to the value-priced chicken sandwich arena; I think Carl's Jr, Jack in the Box, Burger King, and McDonald's all had it in some form or another before them.  It's funny because Wendy's Super Value Menu is the first $1 value menu I remember.

The generically but descriptively named Crispy Chicken Sandwich features a fairly sizable breaded chicken patty made of mechanically separated white meat, one leaf of iceburge lettuce, and a bit of  mayo for 99 cents.

I thought Wendy's Crispy Chicken Sandwich was pretty good.  As I've mentioned before, I like the little bit of sweetness to the Wendy's bun and the patty was very crispy.  Also, the patty is noticeably bigger than the McChicken which is nice.  Plus, Wendy's is within walking distance of my house.
To provide a counterpoint, the sister-in-law does not like the Wendy's egg bun; she thinks it too thick and dense and prefers the McChicken the best out of all value-priced chicken sandwiches.

In the end though, honestly, I would just go with whatever was closest; while there's some slight variations between each brand's chicken sandwich, they're still by and large the same thing or at least close enough for me.

  1. I actually ate this a few nights ago for the first time. (I was getting the bacon & blue burger and figured why not try this, it's only 99 cents.) I share your opinion. It's good but nothing great. There is a McDonald's three blocks from my house, the Wendy's is about three miles; although I like Wendy's a lot more than McD's, it's not worth driving all that way just for this sandwich. - Justin

  2. It looks pretty good especially with less mayo compared to McD's version. Wendys is so far away for me though while McD's I can just walk to.

  3. i get the $1 chicken sandwich from mcdonalds, burgerking, and wendy's and have them put BBQ on instead of mayo. it is more healthy too. i think they all about the same too. need to find what you think of the $1 double stack, buck double at burgerking, and the mcdouble at mcdonalds now.

  4. What is the name of the chicken sandwich at burger king?

  5. They have a few more expensive chicken sandwiches, but the $1 one is called the spicy chick'n crisp. I don't know why burger king chose to have their value chicken sandwich be spicy, but I guess it's something different.

  6. Its not healthy at all. The mechanically separated chicken is treated with ammonium hydroxide (to lower bacteria growth), then artificial flavor is added and then the pink colored meat is dyed white.
