Frozen Friday - Healthy Choice - Rosemary Chicken and Sweet Potatoes

Healthy Choice's Rosemary Chicken and Sweet Potatoes is one of their new steaming entrées. In addition to chicken and sweet potatoes, there's also yellow julienned carrots and pearl onions for a fancier take on frozen food that's really light on calories (180).

A 9-ounce package will run you a retail of about $2.99 or about $2 on sale.

The steaming function also makes it really convenient to cook one of these meals. There are no holes to poke nor slits to cut. The plastic wrap has a sealed slit that's made to open as the heat and steam inside the meal reaches a certain level. It also means you should be really careful opening the plastic even after letting it cool for a couple of minutes.
I didn't look at the package too carefully when I bought it from the supermarket and actually thought it was rosemary chicken with red potatoes and cheese by the picture; partially because I'd never heard of a frozen meal with sweet potatoes and yellow carrots. In fact, before this meal, I'd never even eaten a yellow carrot before.
Yellow carrots taste the same as normal carrots as far as I can tell though. The vegetables were very tender but retained their flavor. I didn't know how sweet potatoes would go with rosemary chicken but it's actually pretty good if a little different. Most of the flavor of the meal came from the potatoes and the chicken which tasted fine as well. I especially liked that the use of salt wasn't as liberal as normal.
The sauce was a slightly tangy, garlic rosemary sauce with just a subtle amount of salt.

Overall, I enjoyed this meal quite a bit. It offered a different take on the more conventional flavors of frozen food and is healthier to boot. The only negative was that despite containing 9 ounces of food, I was hungry again maybe 2 hours later.

  1. Haha, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed but the carrots tasted fine and they are healthier at least.

  2. Wow I would be super disappointed if cheese turned out to be carrots!
