Review: KFC - Original Recipe Bites

KFC's Original Recipe Bites finally brings a chicken nugget to the KFC menu. KFC Bites are pieces of breast meat chicken breaded with the Colonel's Original Recipe.

KFC currently has them at a promotional price of $3.99 for a 6-piece, side, and drink. My local KFC restaurant had a 6-piece going for $3.49 so I opted to pay 50 cents extra for the combo (good call right?).

On one hand, these were a smidgen smaller than I expected from the promo pictures and advertisements, but on the other, I received a little more than six pieces (some were stuck together). I'd still say they were nugget-sized.

I think mine had been sitting under the heat lamps for a while as the meat was a bit on the dry side; it was rather slow at the restaurant and they didn't even have the signage for the Bites up yet. Instead, they had a little white piece of paper with the combo and a la carte price written in black marker. The cashier pointed to it helpfully when I inquired if they had the KFC Bites on menu.

The breading looked like it might be crispy, but it was disappointingly soft and didn't have much, if any, crunch to it. It did have the trademark 11 spices and herb taste, but was also quite salty. It goes nice with a little bit of ranch.

I'd be much happier with KFC Original Recipe Bites if they had some crunch to them as I generally like the flavor of KFC's Original Recipe. As it stands, I was hoping for something better than this. Maybe they'll make a crispy version.

  1. I had these yestersay. I think they are more like CFA nuggets than anything else, although not nearly as moist, mouth-watering, or sweet (credit CFA's pressure cooker and peanut oil.) Good meat ratio on them, however.

  2. Sounds like you got some old bites at a restaurant that wasn't ready for them!!!  Trust me, when they're done right they're DELICIOUS!

  3. Haha, I credit Chick-fil-A's quality control, but you're right they do remind a fair bit of Chick-fil-A nuggets. I think mine had been sitting under the lamps for a bit.

  5. The ones I had were very good.  I think they are overpriced though by about 50%, as are most items at KFC, IMHO.  The bites alone were $2.99 and the combo was $3.99 at Wauseon, Ohio.

  6. "overpriced though by about 50%"

I concur with head-nodding approval and bellows blasting through the shanty, reverberating with a resounding "Yes!!!!!."

The brown recluse spiders scurry in fear with a few becoming ensnared upon the glue traps intended to grasp those multi-legged threats where they scream in fear until death eventually welcomes them.

Yes... too pricey. As I view all within KFC though their gravy is tasty but I drive by reminiscing of days when fast-food vittles prices did not seem to have such a negative affect upon a lad's wallet and spare change bummed from passers-by.

  7. Throw in a toy and you've got a kids meal, as that's about how much meat it looks like you're getting from the pictures.

  8. The bites were good but they were very small I got two six packs for my wife and myself. I gave her all but the one I ate because they were so small, after she was done with them I had to fix us dinner. Six is not a meal even with the sides.
