Review: Papa John's - Bacon Cheddar Stuffed Cheesesticks

Papa John's Bacon Cheddar Stuffed Cheesesticks include a filling of melted cheddar and cheese made from mozzarella, topped with garlic sauce, hickory-smoked bacon, and Parmesan Romano cheese.

I bought an order for $5.

These came looking (and feeling) a bit more dry than I was expecting. There's a lot of flour on the exposed crust and a fairly even layer of crispy Parmesan Romano on top. The pieces of bacon were mostly crispy with the odd, chewy, fatty bits. The garlic sauce appeared to be missing in action. If it was there, it didn't add any moisture or flavor up top.

While the crust was crispy and arid, the crumb remained moist with a slight chewiness to it, which is to say it turned out better than my past experiences with Papa John's pizza crust.

Though not exactly abundant, there was an adequately spread layer of melted cheeses in the middle of the cheesesticks (although less so with the end pieces). Compared to the chain's regular cheesesticks, there was a lot more flavor and nuance to the cheeses.

Between the bacon and the various cheeses, there was a good amount of flavor and texture to Papa John's Bacon Cheddar Stuffed Cheesesticks. They could use a lot more garlic sauce to help with the dry feeling on the outside though. At $5, it's a good value compared to Papa John's other bread options.
