Review: Starbucks - Homestyle Chicken & Double-Smoked Bacon Sandwich

Starbucks Homestyle Chicken & Double-Smoked Bacon Sandwich features slow-cooked herb chicken, double-smoked bacon, and maple mustard on toasted apple brioche (made with dried apples as well as apple butter).

It's normally $6.45 but I saved enough Starbucks Rewards points to nab one for free.

The bread felt less like brioche and more like a dense ciabatta. There was a nice, thin crust to it from toasting but I didn't really taste or feel the apples. I liked the bread but it didn't feel as novel as it sounds.

The chicken was flavorful but oddly textured. It was moist but came in short strands, rather than small strips or chunks, that gave it a bit of a mushy feel. I've had better luck with the chicken in some of their other sandwiches. They do give you a good deal of chicken though.

Likewise, the bacon was meaty and smoky but bereft of any crispiness (which is generally the case with heated sandwiches as far as my experiences go).

The mustard was pretty mild. Combined with the bread, it was good for a light sweetness but not any distinguished notes of maple or apple.

Overall, Starbucks Homestyle Chicken & Double-Smoked Bacon Sandwich was actually quite enjoyable between the texture of the bread and the flavor of the chicken and bacon. However, the fancier and more interesting touches weren't very impactful and fell a bit flat.
