Review: McDonald's - Buttermilk Crispy Tenders

McDonald's Buttermilk Crispy Tenders feature boneless chicken breast strips that are seasoned, battered, breaded, and then deep-fried until crispy.

A four-piece order goes for $3.99 in my area but I received this courtesy of McDonald's. I went with the new Signature Sauce for dipping.

The box that they come in is a little interesting. Rather than the typically clam shell that Chicken Nuggets come in, the new tenders come in a slightly more complicated set up with two slots to hold your sauce for dipping. The lid only covers the chicken though and not the sauces so if you've already opened one of the sauces it can spill out of the box.

The chicken was mostly moist with some juicy sections where the meat was thickest. The chicken seemed to be brined as they exhibited a light saltiness throughout.

Compared to the Chicken Selects that they got rid of, which sported a thick and crunch shell, the new tenders offer an airy, crispy crust. It crumbles rather than flakes.

The new Signature Sauce seems to McDonald's rendition of Raising Cane's Cane sauce. It was savory creamy sauce with a bit of tanginess and sweet from tomatoes as well as a strong black pepper note, but without the heat. It goes really well with the tenders.

Overall, McDonald's Buttermilk Crispy Tenders offered a nice blend of crispy and meaty but felt a bit plain when eaten on their own. They really sing with the Signature Sauce though.
