Review: Hostess - Iced Pumpkin Cupcakes

Hostess Iced Pumpkin Cupcakes feature iced pumpkin cupcakes with a creamy filling.

A 12.7-oz box of 8 individually-wrapped cupcakes cost me $2.99.

Hostess put out similar cupcakes, which they called, "Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes," back in 2015 (before they went bankrupt, were sold, and re-launched) and while these are similar, there are a number of differences.

For one these don't have any seasonal sprinkles on them. Instead, they feature the signature Hostess Cupcake squiggle. Additionally, the frosting here was semi-soft rather than hardened (the last Hostess Cupcakes I had this year had a hardened frosting). It had a sweet flavor with a light note of vanilla.

The cake portion was good for a pleasant, mild pumpkin flavor with a lightly spiced quality. It was pretty moist for a packaged cupcake. The creme filling delivered a smooth whipped cream-like taste and texture.

Taken altogether, Hostess Iced Pumpkin Cupcakes turned out really nicely. I liked the softer frosting and the flavor of the cake.
