Review: Wendy's - Spicy Chicken Guacamole Club

Wendy's Spicy Chicken Guacamole Club is a limited-time premium sandwich that offers the taste of fried spicy chicken breast, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, Pepper Jack cheese, Ranch, and bacon.

It's $4.99 at my local Wendy's but I got to try this one for free courtesy of Wendy's.

Somehow, even though Wendy's premium burgers have that half box to hold the burgers now, my bun still ended up being squished. The bun was pretty soft and doesn't have as much resiliency as other buns in the category. It's not very sturdy and I sometimes wonder if it'll fall apart on me (but it hasn't yet). I still miss the old Kaiser buns with their corn meal dusting.

Wendy's guacamole is quite good; it lacks a bit in texture but I received a good amount in my sandwich and it carries a nice, buttery flavor. I think I'm supposed to get Ranch with this sandwich (to balance out the heat) but it was MIA.

The Pepper Jack was rather muted; a pretty mellow cheese but with a nice creaminess.

The bacon provided a substantial crunch but some of the flavor was lost between the guacamole and the chicken. The lettuce added some crisp texture too but the tomato slice was a little overripe.

The chicken had a good thickness and a crisp, if slightly bready, crust. Plenty for every bite. Much of the heat in the sandwich comes from the chicken. It's pretty spicy; a low-burning heat that sticks around.

All-together, the Spicy Chicken Guacamole Club gets most of its flavor from the chicken and the guac. It's a good combination of taste and texture. I wonder if I might not like it better with a grilled chicken filet though but Wendy's doesn't offer a spicy version of their grilled chicken... maybe someday?
