Review: Baskin-Robbins - Iced Cappy Blast

Left to Right: Iced Cappy Mocha Blast and Iced Cappy Blast
Baskin-Robbins new Iced Cappy Blast expands their beverage offering beyond shakes, smoothies, and floats into a coffee drink (as opposed to a semi-frozen dessert).

It's basically a Cappuccino Blast sans ice cream and blending, served over ice. They're offering it this month on Wednesday at a special promo price of 99 cents for a 12-ounce "mini" cup so I picked up the regular and mocha version to try. It's normally $3.99(!) for a 16-ounce "small" at my local BR.

The Iced Cappy Blast is basically a pre-mix of mostly milk, coffee, and sugar and is sold as "the sweet flavor of our Cappuccino Blast over ice" AKA it's flavored iced coffee. The Iced Mocha Cappy Blast adds chocolate syrup to the mix.

If you're looking for coffee, I suggest looking elsewhere; my Iced Cappy Blast was pretty light in color and I struggled to find a hint of coffee flavor anywhere. It's more like a nutty, sweetened iced milk which doesn't really satisfy a coffee jones.

The Iced Mocha Blast is a little more interesting with a good note of chocolate but nada on the coffee front.

I'm not sure who the audience for this is as I assume people go to Baskin-Robbins mostly for ice cream and, compared to McDonald's or even Starbucks (where they both brew the coffee), Baskin-Robbins charges more for less.

  2. I believe it's a premix so that the only variable is the ice...
