Review: Burger King - Mocha Frappé

Burger King's Mocha Frappé is their new analogue to McDonald's version of the same name and features the same blend of ice, mocha (chocolate syrup) with a hint of coffee flavor.

I picked up a 12-ounce small for $2.49.

They have a single blender at my local Burger King for making Frappés and Smoothies. One of the employees blended some ice and some pre-mix from a carton and then left the cup on the counter. Another employee then preceded to make a sad mound of whipped topping and the worse chocolate swirl I have ever seen; it was more like a chocolate blob on a cake decoration.

It's kinda funny because the whipped topping actually comes out of one of those cake decorating sacks which give you more control when dolling out the whipped cream.

BK's Mocha Frappé  had a pretty good consistency, but it didn't taste so great. It tastes a bit like something you'd get from one of those vending machines at 7-Eleven.

I couldn't detect any notes of coffee flavor. There was the taste of chocolate but it was kinda weird and not the rich chocolate notes you typically want. Finally, there wasn't any milky creaminess either. It tasted mostly of cheap chocolate and ice.

Burger King really whiffed it with their new Mocha Frappé . I was hoping for something better and it left me sadly disappointed.

  3. I tried a Mocha Frappe at my local BK a week or so ago, and it was just OK, no where near as good as Mickey D's, which I'm addicted to. But then today, I got one at another BK in a nearby town, and it was DA BOMB. Great stuff. Yeah, I was still disappointed by the way the just blob the chocolate on top of the whipped cream, but the whipped cream was way creamier than MD's, and this frappe had a good bit of coffee flavor to it....more than my local MD's. I guess it might just depend on what BK you get it from, even though it should all taste the same since it should all be made the same. I do have the same issue with MD's iced tea though. From my local MD's, it's wonderful. From the MD's at a nearby town, it's horrible.

  4. Yeah, that's the frustrating thing about fast food. It should be consistent across the board but sometimes it isn't. I mean the shake comes out of a carton... and they only mix ice in... so maybe it's the proportion of ice?

  5. I just had the same experience at our newly remodeled BK(which opened yesterday) in Dillon SC. Ordered a large Mocha Frappe and was SEVERELY disappointed when what i received was more like a chocolate shake. Texture was incorrect to a frappe-no ice seen or tasted-and DEFINITELY NO coffee flavor whatsoever. I,too, had about a tablespoon of topping, but that wasn't my main concern. The only thing that was like a frappe was the cup i received it in. It was the largest food/beverage disappointment i have had all year.
