Local Review: St. Honore's - Fromage - Costa Mesa

This curiously named dessert came from the same bakery that I bought my delectable loaf of Boloniya Bread from: St. Honore's at the Costa Mesa Mitsuwa Supermarket.  The display label before the cake simply read "Fromage" (French for "cheese") piquing my curiosity and leading me to drop the $4 or so dollars to buy the thing.

It's a fairly good size and easily segmented into six pieces in a monkey-bread fashion.  So what's up with the name?
Each of the segments is filled with a ball of slightly sweetened and fairly dense cream cheese!  It's a pretty novel bread.  The dough is a typical Japanese sweet bread; very lightly sweetened, and squishy soft.  The purple bits is blackberry(?) jam and provides most of the sweetness to the bread.  Overall, it's quite an enjoyable circle of bread.

  1. That looks pretty good. How big is it in terms of inches? Looks like it is probably 4" or so?
