Review: McDonald's - Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Snack Wrap

Since they've already wrapped their trademark sandwich in a tortilla, McDonald's has now moved on to wrapping their premium line of burgers in the same fashion. While they're not slated to roll out nationally until August 10th, McDonald's Angus Snack Wraps are already available at some McDonald's restaurants, including, as I found out when I stopped for fries, mine.

The foil wrapper might say "Bacon & Cheese" but that's only because the Chipotle BBQ isn't a regular menu item.

The Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Snack Wrap basically has everything that's in a Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Third Pounder except lettuce and tomatoes and in lesser quantities. Basically, that means you get half a 1/3 lb. Angus patty, a slice of bacon, half a slice of cheese, a ring of red onion, a pickle slice, and Chipotle BBQ sauce. The price is 50 cents more than the Mac Snack Wrap at $1.99.

While I said that the Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Snack Wrap had everything in lesser quantities, there was one exception: the Chipotle BBQ Sauce. They went a little crazy with the sauce gun on this one. I've said before that McDonald's Chipotle BBQ Sauce has a nice smoky, spiciness to it, but in excessive amounts, it's too sweet.

Still, the wrap was otherwise pretty good. The ingredients reserved for Angus burgers are fairly quality and consistent. It's like there's a "haves" and "have-nots" segregation going on with McDonald's ingredients. Even the pickle slice is better; less soggy, more crunch. Well, I guess the bacon and cheese were the same though.

McDonald's cheese slice is kinda scary, it seems somewhat resistant to melting and is a bit more orange compared to a Kraft single. On the other hand, you can actually taste cheese in the wrap, which I can't always say with some of the burgers I've eaten.

I like this a lot better than the Mac Snack Wrap, the Angus patty makes a big difference here; it gives the wrap a nice meatiness that the Mac Snack Wrap simply lacks. Also, the onion, bacon, and pickle give a fair amount of taste and textural variety. Unlike, the Mac Snack Wrap, I might be inclined to eat this one again. It's the right size for me since the Chipotle BBQ Bacon Angus Third Pounder is a bit too much for my rather light appetite.
