Frozen Friday: Trader Joe's - Potato Pancakes

Trader Joe's Potato Pancakes (or latkes) are small pancakes made of grated potatoes and flavored with onions.

A 10.6-ounce box of eight potato pancakes can be had for $1.99.
These were easy enough to make. You can prepare them in the microwave or on a pan. I went for the pan since I like a bit of crispness. You just add a little oil to the pan and heat each side for several minutes.

The pan frying gives them a slightly crispy crust. Inside the texture is somewhere between hash browns and mashed potatoes; it's not quite as solid as hash browns and not as smooth as mashed potatoes.

The taste is expectedly potato-y, but with a good amount of onion to it. If you don't like the strong flavor of cooked onions, these may not be for you. There's a fair amount of salt to these.

I think potato pancakes are typically eaten with sour cream and/or apple sauce, but they're pretty good plain. I had them with some eggs for a enjoyable meal.

Overall, Trader Joe's Potato Pancakes are pretty nice (as long as you don't mind onions) and easy to prepare.
