Review: Taco Bell - Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze

Taco Bell's Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze is pretty much a Baja Blast-flavored slushie. It looks like the Freezes are replacing the Frutista Freezes on the Taco Bell menu.

The price is the same though: $1.99 for a 16-ounce medium. It's only $1 during Taco Bell's new Happier Hour though.

If you're not familiar with Mountain Dew Baja Blast, it's a Taco Bell exclusive flavor described as Mountain Dew plus the taste of tropical lime.

The short 5 to 10 minute drive home, left the top of my Freeze pretty bare of syrup (I never had this problem with the Frutista Freeze).

The iciness of the slush was decent; not the fineness I've had, but good enough.

I can't remember if I've ever tried Mountain Dew Baja Blast (I usually go with plain Mountain Dew when I get a drink at Taco Bell), but it tastes like Mountain Dew plus a limey bitterness (but not tartness) and a coconut end note. It tastes okay, but I'm not a huge fan of coconut-flavored drinks.

Basically, you might like Taco Bell's Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze on a hot day if you're a fan of Baja Blast or if you think Mountain Dew plus lime and coconut might be a good thing. As for me, I'd rather just have an ice-cold Mountain Dew.

  1. The baja blast is my favorite soda of any I have ever had.

  2. Weird, I've had a lot of Baja Blast (It's the only drink I ever get when I go to Taco Bell) and I've never tasted coconut in it. Nor did I taste it when I tried the freeze version the other day. I'm not a fan of coconut either, so I definitely wouldn't be drinking it if I did taste it in the drink.

  4. Hm. I can't say I'm an expert on Baja Blast, but my cup definitely had some coconut flavor maybe some pina colada (also being offered as a freeze) got mixed in somehow...

  6. I just picked up a baja blast freeze. I love the soda and thought this would be awesome like a coke slushie. However it has a very clear coconut flavor added to it in the freeze version, which I hate coconut. Ill be sticking to the soda from now on

  7. Not sure where you get coconut from... Baja Blast reminds me of a virgin margarita. And last I knew, there was no coconut in margaritas.

  8. I've always wanted to like the baja blast soda but the fountains at Taco Bell always seem too watery for me. However I went for a blast during happy hour and once it melted a bit it had the right amount of sweetness mixed with the icy chilll expected from this type of drink. Worth a solid $1 on a hot day imo, but I'm more inclined to order more food and drink water instead.

  9. I have the Happy Hour Baja Blast Freeze almost every day. It would be every day if the dollar price wasn't over at 5pm, which is very difficult time to arrive by. However, if there was any hint of coconut I wouldn't have it.

Since one of the other freeze flavors is Pina Colada, it's not hard to figure out why you coconut. Definitely ask that they clean the dispenser before you try it again!

There is no other flavor like Baja Blast! That is the reason I go to Taco Bell. I used to have to drive two, three cities away, past many TB's since all Taco Bells did not carry the flavor at first.

  11. This dude Is a hater. The drink is awesome and has no taste of coconut whatsoever. Trust me I cannot stand coconut. They formulated the drink to compliment the food and they have done a fabulous job in doing so!

  12. disliking something doesn't make you a hater. in fact he made it clear that those that enjoy the soda might like this product. he never once said it was disgusting AAANDDDD acknowledged the coconut flavor could've come from the pina colada drink. try not being so defensive over imaginary attacks.
