News: Ben & Jerry's Celebrates 7 Years of Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream by Making it Non-GMO

Ben & Jerry's is celebrating 7 years of Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream ice cream this week and has been giving pints of the stuff to The Colbert Report's studio audience all week long.

The flavor was officially launched back in February 14, 2007 and features vanilla ice cream swirled with caramel and fudge-coated waffle cones. Colbert's donates his entire take of the proceeds to various causes and charities including helping children, veterans, and the environment.

As part of the anniversary, Ben & Jerry's has updated the progress of their endeavor to transition all their ingredients (and therefore all their flavors, including Americone Dream) to derive from non-GMO (genetically-modified organisms) sources. The company is hoping to have their entire line of flavors made from non-GMO ingredients by the middle of this year.

Currently, in the US and Canada, about 80% of Ben & Jerry's ingredients by volume are non-GMO. All Ben & Jerry's products in Europe are already non-GMO.
