Review: Starbucks - Chocolate Caramel Muffin

Starbucks' new Chocolate Caramel Muffin is a chocolate muffin with a caramel center.

I paid $2.45 for one and it was closer in size to muffins you'd make at home than some of the giant bakery ones.

I thought that the muffin might be too sweet with the chocolate and caramel combo, but it wasn't. What it was was really, really good!

The chocolate muffin portion had a rich, deep semi-sweet chocolaty flavor rather than the more standard cocoa taste. It was fairly dense and moist, but not quite so far as brownie level.

The muffin top had a nice crust to it due, in part, to the caramelized granules of sugar that dotted its surface.

Inside (and spilling out from the top like a sweet mini lave flow), the liquid caramel was salted and well-balanced. Like the chocolate, it wasn't too sweet nor too bland and had a hint of creamy butter to it.

Overall, Starbucks' Chocolate Caramel Muffin was pretty exceptional as far as chocolate muffins go. The chocolate and caramel combo seemed thoughtfully put together and well-made.
