News: Ben & Jerry's Unveils New Line of Core Ice Cream

Ben & Jerry's latest play is a new line of "Core" Ice Cream so-named because of the topping/sauce core that runs through the center of each pint and inspired by their Karamel Sutra flavor. While it's new to us in the States, the Core line has been available in the UK since 2012 (although with slightly different flavors).

Beyond its core, each carton features two different flavors of ice cream in each half.

The core lines features four new flavors plus the original Karamel Sutra (with new packaging). The four new flavors are:

- Hazed & Confused: Chocolate & Hazelnut Ice Creams with Fudge Chips and a Hazelnut Fudge Core
- That’s My Jam: Raspberry & Chocolate Ice Creams with Fudge Chips and a Raspberry Core
- Peanut Butter Fudge: Chocolate & Peanut Butter Ice Creams with mini Peanut Butter Cups and a Peanut Butter Fudge Core
- Salted Caramel: Sweet Cream Ice Cream with Blonde Brownies and a Salty Caramel Core

The new flavors are permanent additions and are available in pints starting this month with a suggested price of $4.39. They are all 100% Fairtrade certified and made with non-GMO sourced ingredients.

Additionally, Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops will being to offer new Handmade Core Sundaes featuring a "core" of hot fudge or caramel between a choice of two different flavors starting this spring.

Update 2/26/14: On Second Scoop blogger Dubba points out that Karamel Sutra was first introduced in late 2002 as part of a similar line called "Core Concoctions." The other two since-discontinued flavors to the line were Peanut Butter Me Up (peanut-butter core with chocolate and peanut butter ice creams and fudge chips) and Fudge Central (fudge truffle core with chocolate and vanilla ice creams and dark and white fudge chips).
