Review: Michelina's - Pop'n Chicken

Michelina's Pop'n Chicken features "white chicken nugget fritters and fun formed mashed potatoes."

A 4.5-oz container includes four nuggets and five mashed potato smileys and cost me $1.

I heated these in the microwave and then gave them some time in the toaster oven. They didn't really crisp up at all but neither were they soggy.

The chicken nuggets are probably the smallest I've seen in a frozen meal. They remind me of slightly flattened chocolate Easter egg in shape. Other than the shape, they're pretty standard frozen chicken nuggets. There's an even and thin layer of breading over a moist and finely-ground chicken core.

In taste, it was like chicken with a fairly light spot of seasoning.

The mashed potato smileys were smooth (the chicken was also quite smooth) and a little dry inside. It came up a little short in the creaminess department and were pretty plain. The crust was more like a slightly chewy skin.

When it comes down to it, Michelina's Pop'n Chicken was very reminiscent of the cafeteria lunches I had as a kid although it's more of a snack portion here. Beyond the nostalgia, the chicken and mashed potatoes were decent enough but wanting of some ketchup or the like to dip them in.
