Krispy Kreme - "Greataste Reese's Donut of All Time" Comparison

Krispy Kreme has brought back a trio of the Reese's donuts that they've offered in recent years to vie for a spot on the permanent menu and I was able to try and compare all three.

I received the following three donuts courtesy of Krispy Kreme:

- Classic Reese’s Donut - A shell donut filled with Reese’s Peanut Butter Kreme and topped with Hershey’s chocolate icing, mini peanut butter chips, and a drizzle of Reese’s chocolate and peanut butter sauce.

- Reese’s Outrageous Donut - A glazed chocolate yeast ring donut topped with Hershey’s chocolate icing, Mini Reese’s Pieces, and a drizzle of salted caramel and Reese’s peanut butter icing.

- Reese’s Original Filled Chocolate Lovers Donut - A glazed chocolate yeast ring donut filled with Reese’s Peanut Butter Kreme, topped with Hershey’s chocolate icing, and decorated with Reese’s peanut butter icing.

For the most part, the donuts aren't terribly different in taste with slight variations in the amount of chocolate and peanut butter flavor. The chocolate ring donuts are fairly light in chocolate flavor and have the same signature soft and airy texture as the shell donut. They are, however, glazed in addition to being iced and seem a lot sweeter as a result.

The Reese's Outrageous Donut gets some extra crunch from the Mini Reese's Pieces candies but I didn't catch much flavor from the salted caramel. The Classic Reese's Donut gets a lighter crunch from the peanut butter chips, while the Reese's Original Filled Chocolate Lovers is smooth all around.

With all three donuts offering a decent amount of chocolate and peanut butter flavors, the thing that sets them the most apart is the extra glaze on the two ring donuts. They were almost eye-openly sweet, which might not be so bad in the morning for some but I prefer a bit more moderation and hope that the Classic Reese's Donut is the one that sticks around.
