Review: KFC - Secret Recipe Fries

KFC's Secret Recipe Fries feature thick-cut French fries seasoned with "a secret blend of herbs and spices." They've replaced Potato Wedges on the menu.

I paid $4.49 for a family-sized order (a regular-sized order was $2.49).

The fries are just a little thicker than Burger King fries. They're not unusually thick though. I probably wouldn't call them "thick-cut." Maybe "medium-cut."

I don't know if my batch had been sitting in the warmer for a while but they were markedly dry inside. It noticeably lessened the typical contrast between the soft potato insides and crispy crust of French fries.

Compared to other seasoned fries, KFC's Secret Recipe Fries have a bit more of a pebbled uneven texture at the surface and a fairly thick shell. There's enough batter on them that they stay somewhat crunchy even when they're no longer warm and they heat up quite well in the toaster oven.

As far as the flavor goes, it's fairly neutral and mild in terms of seasoning although there is a general savory quality to them. These are dipping fries for sure. They might go well with KFC's gravy if they'll give it to you.

Overall, KFC's Secret Recipe Fries were a little sub-par for me. I'd eat a few if they were sitting on a table but I'd probably choose a different side over them in a combo meal unless I wanted to check if I have better luck regarding the dry insides. They might be nice if the fried batter on fries is your favorite part.
