Frozen Friday: Healthy Choice - Country Herb Chicken

In a change from the one pound (or more) frozen dinners I normally review, I tackle Healthy Choice's Herb Chicken dinner which features chicken tenderloins with herb gravy, red potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli florets with carrot coins, and a cherry blueberry multi-grain crisp for dessert.

Regular price on one of these is about $3.99 while sales price would be around $2 to $3.

The chicken is typical for frozen dinners; a bit dry and chewy but decent. What was really good was the herb gravy. I liked it very much. It exhibited a depth of seasoned flavor that quite honestly you don't get with the average gravy let alone the standard frozen gravy. Easily the best part of the meal.

The vegetables didn't fare nearly as well and were quite overdone... which I guess is fine if you don't like, or can't chew. The potatoes were okay but made more enjoyable by the gravy.
My least favorite part of the dinner was the multi-grain crisp. It should just be called a cherry blueberry compote because there was no crisp to it. The flavor is mostly cherry and there weren't many grains to be found.

As far as frozen dinners go, this one was about average although the gravy pushes it up to a little more than that. That's not bad at all for a convenient meal that's low in calories, fat, and sodium.

  1. Still, "good" foods on the Glycemic chart have carbs. They are just a little

easier to digest, making them healthier and preferable to the eats with high

    numbers on the Index.
