The Sister is currently on a Chalupa kick; having never tried them until late last year, I had her try one and now she is hooked! I have to ask what she wants from Taco Bell because I already know: Chalupa Supreme.
The Chalupa is one of the most distinctively Taco Bell item on the Taco Bell menu; I haven't seen anything like them anywhere else. The main feature is the deep-fried chalupa shell which has a thin crisp, slightly oily crust while maintaining a soft pillowy interior. It's like a cross between gordita bread and a taco shell I suppose.
Other than the shell, the Steak Chalupa Supreme has the same ingredients as a Steak Taco Supreme. It's a time-tried blend that tastes provides good, balanced variety with the Chalupa shell lending a bit more flavor and a different texture than a taco shell. I did have to take dual bites at the midpoint of the Chalupa to get a little bit of everything though.
I'm not a big fan of Taco Bell steak because it tends to be soft, bland, and textureless (like it's been braised too long) but it was actually decent this time around and tasted and felt like steak. With the varying quality, I'd rather just save myself 60 cents and go for the seasoned beef though.
Overall, Chalupas are great good and uniquely Taco Bell Mexican-inspired cuisine. The steak is a slightly healthier, less salty alternative to the greasier seasoned ground beef for a slightly higher price that could be infinitely better if they actually grilled it in-house. If you frequent Taco Bell and have never tried one, they're definitely worth a try and you just might find yourself hooked like The Sister.
