Review: Disneyland - Steak Gumbo

Steak Gumbo isn't the typical fare you think of eating while visiting Disneyland, but it's available in a bread bowl at the Royal Street Veranda in New Orleans Square where you can catch a view of the Rivers of American and Fantasmic as you eat. They also serve a vegetarian version.

Pricing isn't bad at all at $8.99 per bowl considering that a cup of gumbo at one of the Cajun restaurants in my neck of the woods charges $5.99.

Besides the bread bowl, I also received some oyster crackers to float in my gumbo.

The bread bowl is actually a good size and quite dense to boot. Along with a healthy serving of Steak Gumbo, it makes for a pretty filling meal. Plus it's very nice to rip off pieces to dip in the stew.
The gumbo itself was quite good! It was hot and hearty with plenty of meat and vegetables. The broth itself had a rich, layered complexity that I really hadn't expected. It's tinged with Cajun seasoning with a slight bit of heat. I'd say it's the best meal I've had at Disneyland (granted I've usually eaten burgers or pizza at Disneyland and haven't been there that many times especially in recent years). I wouldn't want to eat it in the summer but it's perfect for the fall and winter.
