Review: Doritos - Taco Flavor

Doritos original Taco Flavor has had its own following since it went away long, long ago but now it's back permanently and features the taste of tacos on a typical Doritos corn tortilla chip.

You can pick up an 11.5-ounce bag for a retail of about $3.99 or around $2.50 on sale.

These actually remind me a little of Doritos Nacho Cheese flavor a bit but not nearly as cheesy. Actually, the seasoning in general is a fair bit more understated than Doritos' more modern flavors; I like it. I find some of the currently flavors a little bit too strong.
The flavor comes from taco seasoning which includes "spices," Cheddar cheese, sour cream, garlic and onion powder, buttermilk, and butter. It tastes like what I generally imagine a chip flavored with taco seasoning to taste like. Which is to say it tastes pretty good!
I also like the retro styling of the bag. It reminds me of the '80s.

  1. This "new retro" Taco flavor is *NOT* anything near what the Original Taco Doritos used to be back in the 70s/80s. First and foremost, there was no "sour cream" flavoring in the original Taco Doritos. This is mearly a modern chip in a throwback bag. Period.

  2. Agreed Phillytim! With unbounded excitement,I bought two bags! With deep disappointment, and not a little bit of resentment toward Doritos, I threw the two bags, minus 5 chips, into the nearest trash bin. Never again will they get my money. About 5 or so years ago I found a Tostitos round chip that tasted almost exactly like the original Taco flavored Doritos. I bought 2 or 3 bags a week. They disappeared from the shelves after about a year and I haven't seen them since.

  3. Don't know about the 70s/80s Taco Doritos, but this taco flavor is definitely not the Doritos Taco Bell from the 90s. I really miss those, because they were finger-licking good and they came in $0.25 bags in my area. 2x quarter bags and 2x quarter drinks was a decent ration for a schoolkid's snack back then.
