Review: Pizza Hut - Waffle Fries

Pizza Hut's Waffle Fries feature battered and deep-fried waffle/criss cut potatoes.

It was $3 for an order.

These appear to be limited availability items as they don't appear on the national menu. It's something Pizza Hut can offer over rivals Domino's or Papa John's because most Pizza Hut locations have deep fryers now, while, to the best of my knowledge, the other two don't.

There was a good amount of Waffle Fries in the small box they came in. They include ketchup for dipping, but ranch would probably go better with them, since the fries already pack a lot of flavor in the seasoning.

You might notice when you pick a fry up that it's a bit light for a waffle-cut French fry. When I bit into it, it was super crispy and had a tasty coat of seasoning, but it was dry and not very potato-y.

I feel like something's missing...
Maybe it was just the batch mine came from, but the fries were cut really thin for waffle fries and basically overcooked as a result. I don't think they cooked it for a super long time either because the breading was a nice golden brown without any charring at all.

Overall, Pizza Hut's Waffle Fries have great crunch and flavor but, at least with my order, were too bone dry to be enjoyable. If they just cut them maybe a millimeter or two thicker, these would be really great.
