I picked these up at $1.49 for a 2 and 7/8-oz bag.
I'll give it to Frito Lay: these chips actually smell and taste like mango. The taste of dried mangoes is right there front and center. The chips aren't even that salty, tangy, or sweet. Just mango-y with a hint of spices thrown in for the "salsa" portion. I would call these "mango-flavored potato chips" though.
They're not bad and I can sit there and eat them just fine, but it's a strange combination and I wouldn't say I actually enjoy them.
Overall, I'd pass on Lay's Wavy Mango Salsa-flavored potato chips. It offers an interesting combination but a little too off the beaten path for me.
These are the last of this year's four "Do Us A Flavor" finalists that I tried (I also tried Cappuccino, Wasabi Ginger, and Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese) and having tried them all, I'd throw my hat in for Wasabi Ginger. Cappuccino and Mango Salsa were just weird tasting and while Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese was good, it tastes too familiar, like something they've already put out before.
