Review: Jack in the Box - Steak & Egg Breakfast Burrito

Jack in the Box's Steak & Egg Breakfast Burrito features new flame-grilled steak, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pepper jack and cheddar cheese, and creamy Sriracha sauce, wrapped in a flour tortilla.

It's available for a limited time and goes for $3.89 (a 30-cent premium over the regular options) in my area, but I received this courtesy of Jack in the Box.

The burrito's a pretty good size; it was stuffed so full that the flour tortilla tore a little bit.

They ran out of hash browns so they substituted in French fries instead. It felt like they were more generous with the fries than with hash browns compared to the last time I got a breakfast burrito there. Like the hash browns, they don't keep their crispness so that I was left with soft, greasy potato goodness.

The steak was pretty plain in taste without much seasoning. There wasn't a charred or seared quality to it like you'd expect from flame grilling. The texture was inconsistent with some tender bits and some gristle bits.

On the plus side, the creamy Sriracha sauce comes out a bit more than in the previous burrito, with more detectable heat and tang.

I didn't notice the cheese at all. Maybe it got mixed in with the fries but, if so, there wasn't much flavor on that front.

The eggs were excellent with a freshly-fried feeling and a fluffy texture.

Overall, Jack in the Box's Steak & Egg Breakfast Burrito was a mixed bag for me. The steak wasn't so great and had me wishing for one of the other breakfast burrito combinations, but the eggs were really nice and the sauce provided enough flavor to carry the burrito (although it can vary).
