Cup Noodles Recipe Changed; Now with No Added MSG and No Artificial Flavors

Reflecting customer preferences, Nissin Foods, inventors of instant ramen, have changed their recipe for Cup Noodles to reduce sodium, remove added MSG, and get rid of artificial flavors.

According to Al Multari, president of Nissin Foods USA, "We asked our consumers what changes they'd like to see in our Cup Noodles product. They told us that without sacrificing taste, the three most compelling changes we could make to our recipe were: lower sodium, no added MSG, and no artificial flavors."

Specifically the changes include:

- A reduction of more than 20 percent in the sodium content of the three best-selling flavors, and a reduction of approximately 15 percent in sodium content of all flavors.

- Removal of added MSG (the product still contains small amounts of naturally occurring glutamates in ingredients such as soy sauce, tomato, and red chili pepper)

- Replacement of artificial flavors with added natural ingredients (such as turmeric, paprika and lime).

The recipe change hasn't affected the price of Cup Noodles and can be found on shelves nationwide.
