Review: IHOP - Salted Caramel and Banana Criss-Croissant

IHOP's Salted Caramel and Banana Criss-Croissant features dulce de leche cream, sliced bananas, a drizzle of salted caramel sauce, and a dusting of powdered sugar.

An order if $6.29 a la carte or $7.29 in a combo that also includes eggs, hash browns, and either sausage or bacon.

The Criss-Croissant was crisp and very flaky at the surface, while soft and moist in the middle. Compared to a regular croissant, it wasn't as buttery but was more compact with the many layers very close to each other, giving it a different but still enjoyable texture.

While the Criss-Croissant wasn't very buttery, the combination of it along with the dulce de leche cream and salted caramel sauce gives the whole affair a deliciously sweet buttery quality. There wasn't a lot of saltiness to the caramel; I would have like just a tad more.

The banana were firm (although I'm sure this varies from banana to banana) and went very well with the crisp pastry and caramel. Between it, the Criss-Croissant, the cream, and the sauce, there was a lot of textural variety to be found.

Overall, IHOP's Salted Caramel and Banana Criss-Croissant was excellent. All the components complemented each other quite nicely and interestingly.
