Review: Wendy's - New Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Wendy's new, redesigned Grilled Chicken Sandwich features a seasoned grilled chicken breast, spring mix, tomatoes, and smoky honey mustard sauce on a new toasted multi-grain bun.

They're currently offering it for $5 in a combo with small fries and a drink, which is nice because my local Wendy's charges $4.99 for just the sandwich anyway.

The new grilled chicken breast is meant to be be juicier and more tender. It didn't seem any juicier nor more tender to me, but it was reasonably moist and nicely thick. What I did notice was the new seasoning, which delivered a more herby profile with a notable hint of rosemary.

The herbiness went well with the smoky honey mustard sauce, which was well-balanced, creamy, and mild.

The spring mix and tomatoes were pretty fresh but didn't offer much in the way of crispness. You do get a bit more nuanced flavors with the spring greens but I prefer iceberg lettuce for the crunch.

I expected the bun to be a little rustic or hearty but beyond the appearance, it just felt like a standard soft burger bun, which could be good or bad depending on your preferences. The various grains that dotted the top of the bun didn't contribute any meaningful tastes.

While it sports a strikingly different appearance from the previous version, the changes in Wendy's new Grilled Chicken Sandwich, beyond the new herbiness, tend towards subtlety. That being said, it's quite tasty.
