Review: Pizza Hut - Grilled Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizza

Pizza Hut's Grilled Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizza features cheddar and mozzarella stuffed in and baked onto the crust at the edge. The crust is then topped with toasted breadcrumbs for crunch and melted butter to add to the grilled cheese feeling.

I paid $12.99 for a large, pepperoni pizza with the new crust option.

I'm only going to talk about the new crust as the rest of the pizza is the same stuff I've devoted a good deal of digital ink to through the years.

They did not skimp on the cheese here, while there didn't look like there was that much from where each slice was cut, biting into it yielded a lot of gooey, melted goodness. It was similar to Pizza Hut's regular stuffed crust in texture but was a bit more liquid. On the taste front, it offered the same salty creaminess but with a pronounced mild cheddar quality to it. The flavor reminded me a little of a Handi-Snack.

The crust itself was more bread-like and doughy than like a proper pizza crust but maybe it fits the grilled cheese sandwich feeling a bit more. The toasted breadcrumbs and cheese combined to do a nice impression of the grilled surface of a grilled cheese with an airy, slightly craggy crunch.

If the question is would I rather have a decent grilled cheese sandwich and a more standard slice of Pizza Hut pizza over the new Grilled Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizza, my answer would be, "Yes, I would." The cheesy flavor didn't quite get me thinking "grilled cheese" and there was a bit too much cheese (a much better problem than having too little to be sure). That being said, it still made for an acceptable slice of extra cheesy crusted pizza.
