Review: Subway - Autumn Carved Turkey Sub

Subway's Autumn Carved Turkey Sub features thick-sliced, carved turkey and new Sweet Cranberry Mustard Sauce.

The sub costs $5.25 in my area for a 6-inch and $8.45 for a Footlong.

You can order it however you like with a choice of bread, veggies, sauces, and what not but I went with the recommended build, which includes 9-grain wheat bread, cheddar cheese, red onions, spinach, and tomato.

The new sauce offers a sweet blend of tangy cranberry notes and a decent kick of mustard. The mustard is more apparent when tasting the sauce alone and was a bit harder to pick out when taken with the rest of the sandwich. Unlike cranberry sauce you might have at Thanksgiving, it's thinner and quite a bit ended up dripped out as I was eating.

The turkey was moist, thick, and meaty--meatier than most protein options on the Subway menu. It went well with the sauce.

The vegetables were fresh but lacking in flavor, which is my usual experience with Subway. The onions, in particular, lacked much of that acrid bite.

For a place that markets fresh-baked bread, the sub roll was pretty disappointing. It added a nutty quality but, texture-wise, was like week-old sliced bread. It was overly chewy and a little dry.

When it comes down to it, Subway's Autumn Carved Turkey Sub or rather the new Sweet Cranberry Mustard Sauce does enough to offer something new to Subway's offerings this fall, although the bread still could use improvement.
