Review: Jack in the Box - Sourdough Patty Melt

Jack in the Box's Sourdough Patty Melt features Swiss and American cheese melted on a grilled beef patty and served with grilled onions and mayo on toasted sourdough bread.

It costs $4.99 as part of a combo with small fries and a drink of $4.29 for just the sandwich alone.

With only a few ingredients, Jack in the Box did a solid job with this one.

The sourdough dough slices (which aren't sour at all) sported a somewhat smooth, thin and lightly-crispy surface on the outside.

The Swiss and American cheese were melted and just enough to qualify as a melt (since, typically, you only get 1 slice of cheese per patty if that). The mayo gave an extra savory push.

The onions were only lightly grilled, which meant they didn't quite have that deep sweetness but were instead good for a watery crunch and lighter sweetness.

The beef was moist and mostly fit the bread.

Overall, Jack in the Box's Sourdough Patty Melt turned out well especially if all you really want in a burger is meat and cheese. Some might find it a little plain but most of the patty melts I've had didn't include a bold component either.
