According to Starbucks, the new drink was inspired by leche merengada ("meringue milk"), a drink popular in Spain that's basically sweetened milk mixed with egg whites and flavored with cinnamon. For the Cloud Macchiato, Starbucks developed Cloud powder with egg whites as a key ingredient to create a layer of Cloud foam.
Starbucks Cloud Macchiato comes in two varieties: Caramel and Cinnamon.
The Caramel Cloud Macchiato features whipped Cloud cold foam with a bit of vanilla syrup topped with espresso and a crosshatch of caramel sauce.
The Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato features whipped Cloud cold foam with a touch of cinnamon lemon syrup, topped with espresso, a caramel sauce crosshatch, and a dusting of cinnamon.
Both drinks are available hot or iced at Starbucks stores in the US and Canada.
