Review: Papa John's - Philly Cheesesteak Papadia

Papa John's Philly Cheesesteak Papadia features a flatbread-style sandwich filled with Philly sauce, cheese, steak, onions, and green peppers, and served with garlic dipping sauce.

I bought one for $6.

While it was nicely-browned and even charred at the edges, the crust of the Papadia was only sporadically crispy despite looking very crispy. Still, I prefer it to Papa John's hand-tossed crust which can be hit or miss in the crispy department (it's usually "miss" for me).

Topping/filling-wise, the Philly Cheesesteak Papadia includes the same toppings as you'd find on Papa John's Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. The steak was tender with an enjoyable seasoned flavor. The onions and green peppers added a bit of crunch and sweetness, while the Philly sauce (a creamy garlic sauce) layered on a richness and nice pleasant flavor.

I like it better the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza for two reasons: as it's basically a smaller, folded version of the same pizza, there's twice the cheese and toppings which meant not only was it meatier and cheesier but it was also more flavorful. What also made it more tasty was there was less bread/crust to the Philly Cheesesteak Papadia which also helped the meat and cheese come to the fore.

Overall, Papa John's Philly Cheesesteak Papadia turned out really well. I thought the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza was "pretty good but not great" when I reviewed it and by offering a folded sandwich version, the extra steak, cheese, and veggies in each bite make it that much better. I also wouldn't mind it if they offered the Papadia unfolded as a pizza as I prefer the crust over their regular hand-tossed version.
